The Boss Bruce Springsteen has never been shy about sharing his two cents when it comes to issues he believes in. So it comes as no surprise that the outspoken rock icon aired his doubts about President-elect Donald Trump's competency in leading the US when he is inaugurated into office.
"I've felt disgust before, but never the kind of fear that you feel now. It's as simple as the fear of is someone simply competent enough to do this particular job? Forget about where they are ideologically. Do they simply have the pure competence to be put in the position of such responsibility?" he said in an interview with Marc Maron over his WTF podcast.
Springsteen said that Trump's politcal message was mainly hinged on bigotry, hatred and racism but he understood how fear of the ISIS, unemployment and instability would propel the voters to favor Trump. He however expressed fear that Trump's behavior would become the catalyst to make un-American behavior part of the norm in American society.
It can be recalled that during the height of the election season, Springsteen also described Trump as a "toxic narcissist" when he was interviewed by Channel 4 news in London. Even at the time, Springsteen admitted that Trump has the attention of people and that she stands a good chance in the race for the White House.
"I think he's going to make as big a mess as he can, and I don't know what that's going to mean but we'll find out shortly," he said. Despite his doubts, Springsteen remains steadfast in his belief in America as a country and assured that he will play his role as a citizen of the nation.
"America is still America. I'm still believe in its ideals, and I'm going to do my best to play my very, very small part in maintaining those things," he assured.
