Kingston is a brand name synonymous with digital storage. The company is known to have designed and produced some exciting storage products and were the first to introduce a 1TB flash drive. At CES 2017, Kingston has introduced world's first USB flash drive with 2TB of storage.
2TB of storage may sound familiar when we talk of hard drive storage but it is insane amounts of storage as far as flash drives are concerned. Kingston has taken the game to the next level by introducing 2TB DataTraveler Ultimate GT, a USB flash drive with 2 Terabytes of storage measuring just 72mm x 26.94mm x 22mm.
As per reports from The Verge, the flash drive uses a USB 3.1 connector as opposed to USB Type-C which is a newer generation interface and provides blazing fast read and write speeds however the ports might not be available on some laptops.
ZDNet reports that flash drive has a high-end design and is made of a zinc-alloy metal casing for high shock resistance and durability. The drive has enough room to store upto 70 hours of 4K video or, 2,56,000 photos of 16MB each or, 96 PC games.
The storage capacity is insane for the size and previously only SSD's and hard drives had this amount of storage. Since the DataTraveler Ultimate GT is a flash based USB device, there no mechanical and moving parts which means it can withstand occasional drops so it is much durable than a hard disk drive.
Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate GT specifications:
Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate GT will be available in February 2017 in two different storage capacities of 1TB and 2TB. The pricing has not been disclosed by the company but it is going to be very expensive because of the storage capacity that it offers in such a small package.
