Hollywood musical "La La Land" took home 7 Golden Globes and broke the record for the most Golden Globe Awards won in one evening.
The film won every category where it was nominated including Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Score, Best Musical or Comedy Film and acting nods for both Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as actors in a musical. However, it was "Moonlight" that took home the prize for Best Drama Film.
Other winners include Isabelle Huppert as Best Actress in Drama category for "Elle" and Viola Davis as Best Supporting Actress for "Fences." Casey Affleck was also hailed as Best Actor in Drama category for his performance in "Manchester by the Sea," while Aaron Taylor-Johnson took home the prize for Best Supporting actor for "Nocturnal Animals," BBC reported.
Meanwhile, Meryl Streep accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award - a lifetime achievement award and gave a rousing speech. In contrast to Fallon's comedic tirades against Donald Trump, Streep made a serious tone to address the current presidential election.
"It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can't get it out of my head because it wasn't in a movie. It was real life," she said.
While Streep did not name any person in her speech, it was clear that she is referring to Trump's antics last election when he mocked reporter Serge F. Kovaleski who has arthrogryposis. Trump responded by simple dismissing Streep as a "Hillary lover" and later called her as "one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood," The Washington Post reported.
Streep, whose career had nearly covered 4 decades has been nominated for 19 Academy Awards (Oscars) and 30 Golden Globe Awards. She holds the distinction of being nominated more than any other actor for both award-giving bodies.
