Take your broken heart and turn it into art: Carrie Fisher tells Meryl Streep

Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher has received many tributes since she passed away last December 27 after suffering from cardiac arrest on board a transatlantic flight from London to LA, but one of the most touching remembrances came from another Hollywood icon, Meryl Streep.

The acclaimed actress recently received the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award at the 74^th Golden Globes where she spoke extensively about the privilege and the responsibility that goes with their profession.

Meryl recalled a statement made by her friend Carrie Fisher about channeling the bad things and disappointing challenges into something good through their work as artists, Kare 11 reported.

"Yeah, it is, and we have to remind each other of the privilege and the responsibility of the act of empathy. We should all be very proud of the work Hollywood honors here tonight. As my friend, the dear departed Princess Leia, said to me once, 'Take your broken heart and make it into art.' Thank you, friend," Streep said in her speech.

The Golden Globes also aired a touching tribute reel for Fisher and her mother, Hollywood legend Debbie Reynolds, after they died one day apart from each other. Carrie was 60 at the time of her death while Debbie passed away at the age of 84.

The mother and daughter, who lived their lives sharing a close relationship, held a joint memorial in their compound, and they were buried near Bette Davis. 

In remembrance for her unique sense of humor, Carrie's ashes were contained in an urn shaped like a Prozac pill which was held by her brother Todd, Inside Edition reported.

"We had a beautiful service and everybody is settled as we can be. We have so much of them that was left behind, all of my sister's [words] and the movies and all the things that they created and that's what we need to remember," Todd said.
