6 local restaurants to open at the Brooklyn Navy Yard's new food hall

Six new local eateries will be joining Russ & Daughters and Brooklyn Brewery at the Navy Yard's new food hall and is expected to open this year.

The Navy Yard's largest development project - a 60,000-square-foot food hall at Building 77 - will feature eight full restaurants and two food-and-beverage kiosks, as DNA Info reports.

Prospect-Lefferts Gardens smoothie shop Brooklyn Greenery will be opening its second branch at Building 77. They offer breakfast and lunch options like smoothies, salads, juices and acai bowls.

Rustik Tavern, which has been on DeKalb Avenue in Bedford Stuvyesant since 2008, will open a restaurant and bar. The comfort-food joint serves classic dishes like burgers, mac and chees, and chicken and waffles. The Navy Yard said that the restaurant will host regular community events through partnerships with local schools and non-profit organizations.

Crown Heights Caribbean fixture The Food Sermon will serve its signature Island Bowls, filled with savory stewed meats in coconut ginger and spicy tomato sauces. Using Navy Yard's manufacturing facility, the restaurant will also manufacture its own brand of bottled hot sauces and teas.

Commercial kitchen Tiny Drumsticks which is based in Long Island City will also open a commissary that will be shared by local chefs and smaller food manufacturers. On the helm will be Bite Size Kitchen, a catering company and Smorgasburg vendor that serves traditional American Breakfast and lunch.

Korean barbecue stand We Rub You, another Smorgasburg veteran, will be selling Korean specialties and condiments besides its takeout menu, which includes Korean BBQ sliders. Yum!

Traditional Haitian breakfast and lunch options will be served by Bed-Stuy Haitian spot Grandchamps. They will also offer coffees and teas.

Also in a report by Daily News, fried chicken restaurant Root & Bone in the East Village will host "Roots of Southern Cooking," a monthly dinner series that debuts January 19. It will take diners back in time through the history of Southern cuisine with menu inspired from cookbooks like Mary Randolph's "The Virginia Housewife" from 1824.
