The prototypemodels of one of gaming's most awaited and anticipated products appear to have been stolen at this year's CES tech expo in Las Vegas. However, some doubt and commented that the incident was staged or was only a publicity stunt.
It was reported that Razer 's two Project Valerie prototype gaming laptops displayed at the company'sbooth were taken stolen on Sunday afternoon, as reported Engadget. 'Project Valerie' features three built-in 17-in. 4K displays that automatically slide in place when the device is opened, as Polygon previously announced.
BBC reported that Project Valerie is reportedly the first gaming product of this kind. Due to pending release of 'Project Valerie', the brand had enjoyed a cult status among the gaming community, and gamers from around the world.
Tan Min-liang, Razer's founder and CEO, announced the news on Monday in a post on Facebook and viewed the potential theft as "cheating." "We treat theft/larceny, and if relevant to this case, industrial espionage, very seriously - it is cheating, and cheating doesn't sit well with us," he wrote, adding that Razer "worked months on end to conceptualize and develop these units."

A Razer spokesman said it was offering $25,000 (£20,600) for any "original information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction" of those allegedly involved in the crime. Meanwhile, some have become suspicious and have speculated that the this was a publicity stunt. Todd Prince, gaming reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal who was at the event, reasoned out to BBC the theft was unbelievable, given the tight security.
On the other hand, some defended the company considering hthat ow much publicity 'Project Valerie' already had gotten before the convention even started. Before the theft news, everyone was already talking and writing about it. Therefore, Razer would not take the risk to endanger the brand for more publicity.
Project Valerie has neither a release date nor a launch price as of now.
