Twin Peaks, a crime drama that aired on ABC for two seasons from 1990-1991 is getting a new lease on life as Showtime confirmed that it will be airing the third season of the show this summer.
According to a report by Slash Film, the season revival will kick off with a two hour season premiere on May 21 and release the third and fourth episodes through Showtime's streaming services Showtime Anytime, and Showtime On Demand will follow immediately after. This means that fans of the show will get to watch four straight episodes in one night if they want to.
The rest of the episodes will air on a weekly basis on Showtime. To ensure that the revival will remain consistent with the standards of the original hit series, Showtime is bringing back show creators David Lynch and Mark Frost to run the show.
The revival series will run for 18 episodes and was written as a whole big story divided into episodes. David Lynch will also direct all the episodes for the revival.
In an interview with Showtime president and CEO David Nevins, he shared his excitement over the network's decision to revive the show describing it as the "pure heroin" version of the original series.
According to a report by Variety, original cast members who are confirmed to return to the series are Kyle MacLachlan, David Duchovny, Alicia Witt, David Patrick Kelly and Harry Dean Stanton.
Actors Monica Bellucci, Jim Belushi, Jeremy Davies, Laura Dern, Hailey Gates, Balthazar Getty, Ernie Hudson, Ashley Judd, David Koechner, Matthew Lillard, Trent Reznor, Tim Roth, Amanda Seyfried, Tom Sizemore, Jessica Szohr, Eddie Vedder and Naomi Watts will also be added to the cast.
Aside from the strong cast members, the show will also tap Grammy award winning composer Angelo Badalamenti to provide the signature sound to the iconic series, Den of Geek reported.
