The producers of the highly anticipated "Shazam!" movie are about to reveal more details about the DCEU 2019 film. The producers and writers met on Jan. 11, 2017 to discuss the movie and one of them teased big reveals and developments.
The only confirmed "Shazam!" movie cast is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the main villain, Black Adam. That may change soon, though. It's still two years till the movie's release date, but fans are already excited to know who is going to star as the titular Shazam, formerly called Captain Marvel.
"Shazam!" movie will have an atmosphere different from other DC films
Producer Hiram Garcia posted on Twitter that there will be big announcements to come. According to CinemaBlend, this DCEU movie has a different creative team. One of the producers, Dany Garcia, said that the "Shazam!" franchise was given "incredible autonomy".
This could mean that the movie itself will have a different feel from the other movies in the DC Extended Universe. Fans are hoping that the "Shazam!" movie will be more upbeat and less gloomy, which was the main criticism of its predecessors "Man of Steel" and "Batman v Superman".
In fact, Dwayne Johsnon posted an Instagram photo of himself at the DC headquarters. He wrote that the film's developments are something every DC fan has been waiting for and that the film promises some optimism and fun.
Johnson sees Black Adam as an anti-hero
MovieWeb reports that Johnson has been teasing fans about his character for years now. The "Central Intelligence" actor sees his character as an unconventional hero who "started off as a slave and felt he was wronged".
This could be hinting at Black Adam's bigger role in the DC universe, where he had also joined the Justice Society of America. Occasionally, Black Adam stars as an anti-hero in several storylines. Black Adam is trying to destroy the planet only because he lost his own family and home.
Fans will remember that Johnson also posted a picture of him and Henry Cavill on Instagram with the hashtag #DCWorldsCollide. He could just be talking about him and Cavill, who plays Superman, hanging out over the holidays. However, it could also be a hint at future Black Adam appearances in other DCEU films.
The "Shazam!" movie will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019. For those unfamiliar with the comics, it is a story about a young boy named Billy Batson who gains the power to turn into Shazam after shouting the word, "Shazam!" He turns into an adult superhero who fights evil and sometimes works alongside Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.
