"Jurassic World 2" director JA Bayona just released a few hints as to what viewers can expect in the sequel of the 2015 hit action sci-fi thriller, "Jurassic World". The director said that the second movie will serve as a sequel to both new and old 'Jurassic" film franchises.
This means that there will be more connection between the new film and the events (or characters) of the original "Jurassic Park" trilogy. "Jurassic World" only had the basic connections to its predecessors. The only main character from the original film series to appear in the 2015 movie was the heavily scarred T-Rex (aside from Dr. Henry Wu who was still splicing dinosaur genes in 2015).
Darker film will serve as sequel to "Jurassic World" and "Jurassic Park"
CinemaBlend reports that Bayona is planning for the second movie to be darker and heavier. He also said that the film will explore issues about animal rights, which were lightly touched on in "Jurassic World".
Both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will reprise their roles in the second movie. No one else is rumored to sign on, but Colin Trevorrow, director of "Jurassic World", will be working with Bayona and Derek Connolly (also from "Jurassic World") to pen the script for the second film.
According to Den of Geek, Trevorrow plans to expand the "Jurassic Park" universe beyond theme parks and islands. He said that designing and creating dinosaurs could be a darker issue in industries like war and energy.
InGen had the idea in "Jurassic World" to turn the dinosaurs into weapons, but Trevorrow is hinting at other organizations that could have the same idea. This could certainly expand the universe to include dinosaur problems on a city scale.
Who will be part of the new "Jurassic World 2" cast?
If "Jurassic World 2" is going to have a bigger connection to the "Jurassic Park" series, viewers might get to actually see Dr. Alan Grant or even Dr. Ian Malcolm. This will certainly tie the films into one long, single franchise.
Meanwhile, actors Toby Jones and Rafe Spall are rumored to be on board the next dinosaur film. On a sad note, Lowery Cruthers (Jake Johnson), the Jurassic Park fanboy, will not return for the sequel. This new film will be produced with a $260 million budget, while "Jurassic World" had $150 million. It's slated to be released in cinemas on June 22, 2018.
