Season 12 of "American Idol" has been rocky at best for Fox and the shows producers. Two of the new judges, Nick Minaj and Mariah Carey, got into a well publicized argument at early on in the 2013 tapings. From there, ratings continued to disappoint, prompting speculation the show would get rid of Carey mid-season and replace her with Jennifer Lopez. Oh, and all the while, Minaj has been rumored to be a major diva backstage and even showed up late to a live taping. While all this is going on, there is still an actual competition taking place with the top four singers still competing.
This past week, the top four singers Candice Glover, Amber Holcomb, Angie Miller, and Kree Harrison all continued to compete. However, "American Idol" once again dropped the ball on Thursday night's results show as Ryan Seacrest and the show tried to play up some sort of dramatic ending.
The only problem is, almost everyone knew the predicament the show was in. With the season 12 finale set for May 16 and four contestants left, the math just didn't add up. At one of the final shows, producers needed to not eliminate someone. That's why the fact that the judges used their save and didn't eliminate Amber or Candice Thursday night was rather obvious to a lot of fans. Unfortunately, this is just another low point in the show.
The top four singers, all girls, are extremely talented, but they have been overshadowed by the drama surrounding low ratings and the judges feuds. The bad news for "American Idol" continued this week when news broke that A&E's "Duck Dynasty" finale beat "American Idol" in the coveted 18-49 demographic. Wednesday night "Duck Dynasty" pulled in a 4.3 rating according to Entertainment Weekly, while "American Idol" scored just a 3.3 in the 18-49 demo. This is just another blow to a show once considered TV's best. Will "American Idol" be able to bounce back for season 13?
