"Hawaii Five-0" Season 7 Episode 13 was the last episode for Masi Oka's character, Dr. Max Bergman. Oka is not the only one who will be leaving the show, though. Alex O'Loughlin has been vocal about his intentions to leave the crime drama after Season 8.
Masi Oka leaves after seven seasons of "Hawaii Five-0"
In an interview with the NY Post, Oka said that Bergman's story had already run its course. He said that his character had gotten married and was well-settled with his life and that he was going on a new adventure. Oka expressed that he wanted the same thing. He wanted another adventure.
Even though Dr. Bergman is leaving the show, the team could still contact him for help. In other crime dramas like "Criminal Minds", many characters who have left the show eventually made guest appearances to help the team. Fans are certainly hoping that Oka's character will return to "Hawaii Five-0" in one of its episodes.
Oka has a lot of projects waiting for him and he said that he also wanted to visit Hawaii not for work, but for vacation. Since the "Heroes" actor lives in Los Angeles, he had been travelling to Hawaii 18 times a year. It had been draining for him to commute, so now he is looking forward to a more relaxed work schedule.
Alex O'Loughlin will bid farewell to "Hawaii Five-0" in the future
"Hawaii Five-0" Season 7 has seen an increase in viewer ratings. This signals a promising new season after the last few episodes this February 2017. However, fans will have to prepare themselves to say goodbye to another character, Steven J. "Steve" McGarrett, the other half of the McDanno bromance.
In an interview with Collider last year, Alex O'Loughlin, who stars as Steve, said that he was planning to leave after Season 8. The Australian actor said that he loved the CBS drama, but it was taking a physical toll on him.
He revealed that he wasn't sure if he could give as much as he could beyond eight seasons. O'Loughlin had injured his shoulders and knees. Also, he has had stem cell treatments due to injuries sustained while filming "Hawaii Five-0". While he did enjoy his work, it was not something he could prioritize over his family and health.
"The Back-Up Plan" actor also said that he wanted to direct an episode in "Hawaii Five-0" Season 8 before he leaves. While the show hasn't been confirmed for a renewal yet, fans are hopeful because of the high viewer ratings. "Hawaii Five-0" Season 7 will be back on Jan. 20, 2017. Watch trailer below.
