The longtime highest profile show on The CW will finally come to an end after completing 8 seasons. But rumors of a new season being aired on a different network are spreading around. However, The CW and executive producer Julia Plec seems to be firm on their decision to end the show, not willing to continue the franchise just to have more seasons.
After writing the story for the finale, Julia Plec, the executive producer of the show, assured fans that they would surely love the final episode. She also shared that the unresolved issues in the previous episodes will finally have their own conclusions in the final episode of 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8.
From a source on Cinemablend, Nina Dobrev, the actress who took the role as Elena Gilbert, was not able to continue the show when she left after finishing six seasons. The actress explained that she wanted to take a break and pursue other projects. Her exit greatly affected the show that they had to change the content. Julia Plec explained that they had to adapt to this change, causing them to work on the story in a different light. But they made sure that the story they're working on remains similar to what was originally planned.
However, there are rumors of Nina Dobrev returning for 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8. The rumors were then addressed by the executive producer Julia Plec saying that a comeback is possible as long as it would not affect Dobrev's schedule according to an article in Tvline.
She also added that the team and Nina Dobrev herself is committed to work on the show together again, but at this point Julia Plec do not want to speak too soon because it might just disappoint both parties in the end if ever they fail to figure it out.
Meanwhile, 'The Vampire Diaries' Season 8 continues to air every Friday at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
