Tina Lawson: The Woman Behind One Of The Most Influential Performers Of All Time

Girls who run the world can't do it all by themselves. They needed a lot of help along the way. Beyonce is no different; she couldn't have done it without the help of the one and only Tina Lawson. Solange and Beyonce Knowles said their mother Tina always taught them to be in control of their voice, bodies, and their work.

In June of last year during her acceptance speech for the fashion icon award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, Beyonce dedicated the award to her "fabulous and beautiful" mother. And in November during a guest appearance on "Saturday Night Live", a video posted on Instagram taken backstage showed her being carried by mom Tina and big sis Beyonce. It was clear how the bond among the three can never be broken.

Many people may only know Tina Knowles Lawson as the mother of one of the best performers that has ever lived, but that's not the be all and end all of of the retired family matriarch. She's a known hair stylist, fashion designer, philanthropist, art collector, and a social media enthusiast per The New York Times.

It's no wonder then that daughters Beyonce and Solange gushes over their mother all the time. About her mother's passion for collecting African-American art work she said that her mom felt it was important for her kids to be surrounded with positive, powerful and strong images of African and African-American art so they could reflect and see themselves in them.

Moreover, her mom has always invested in making ladies feel beautiful. Whether it was doing their hair, or making a prom dress for one of the girls in church. Tina's art collection told these stories, about women wanting to do the same thing. Obviously, the girls learned about women empowerment at a very early age.

They Looked A Little Crazy Sometimes

Tina Lawson also stepped up to make costumes for "Destiny's Child" when the group broke out in the late nineties. She acquired the skills from her mom Celestine Ann Beyonce who used to be a seamstress in Galveston, Texas. She said that the girls looked a little crazy at times, but that people always wondered what the all girls group was going to wear next per Us Magazine.

Tina divorced Beyonce's father Matthew back in 2009 after 33 years of marriage. She is now married to actor Richard Lawson and still finds time to design. She even created Solange's gown for her performance at President Barack Obama's farewell White House fete on January 6.
