Catherine Zeta-Jones Bipolar Disorder, Enters Mental Health Facility for Treatment: Actress and Husband Michael Douglas 'Split,' Headed for Divorce?

Reports confirm that "Chicago" actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has checked herself into a mental health facility for treatment of her bipolar condition. Zeta-Jones' publicist Sarah Fuller released in a statement to the AP that the 43-year-old starlet is "proactively" seeking treatment to manage her health in "an optimum manner." Previously, rumors had it that Zeta-Jones and longtime hubby Michael Douglas had split and that the Hollywood power-couple were headed towards divorce. Those rumors remain totally unsupported and unconfirmed.

Zeta-Jones has been very open with the public about her mental health struggles - in April 2011, she sought treatment for her diagnosis of Bipolar II. The disorder, which is commonly treated with medication and psychotherapy, is typically marked by mood swings and depressive episodes.

According to TMZ, the "Side Effects" actress checked herself into the facility on Monday (April 29) and is expected to complete a 30-day program. In an email sent to the AP on Monday evening, publicist Sarah Fuller wrote that Zeta-Jones is "proactively" seeking treatment for her bipolar condition and "is committed to periodic care in order to manage her health in an optimum manner." Another source for TMZ insists that "it's [health] maintenance."

Earlier this year, the National Enquirer spread rumors that Zeta-Jones and actor Michael Douglas (married since 2000) entered a “hush-hush trial separation” last summer after their 12-year marriage “buckled under the pressure of dealing with Michael’s cancer battle, his druggie son Cameron’s incarceration and Catherine’s struggle with bipolar II disorder.” According to alleged inside sources, Douglas moved out because the problems were too unbearable (ultimately, he felt "portrayed" and "snubbed" by his wife). He apparently “stayed in a nearby rental property owned by a multimillionaire pal.”

A rep for the couple informed Gossip Cop that the report is definitely "not true," and there's been no talk of a trial separation or impending divorce since.

Zeta-Jones and Douglas were both last seen together looking happy and healthy walking the red carpet at the 40th Anniversary Chaplin Award Gala at Lincoln Center on April 22.
