The lead member of K-Pop girl group miss A, Suzy Bae, released her first solo debut album "Yes? No?" on January 23. Her pre-release single "Pretend" became number one in Korean music charts soon after she released the track on January, 17. The track perfectly describes sadness and loneliness that people endure despite their seemingly happy and perfect life.
Another track from "Yes? No?" album that stole every fan's heart is "Yes No Maybe". According to Billboard, the track has melancholy ballad atmosphere with a little touch of 90s' pop delicacy. "Yes No Maybe" has a defining melody that features subtle electronic continuous vibe. The track was written by Park Jin Young, the chairman of JYP management. Park revealed that the song is inspired by his long friendship with Suzy.
Thanks to their bond, Park was able to write a song that could reflect Suzy's thought as a young woman that eventually becomes number one hit in Korea and soon worldwide. The accompanying music video also features 90s' vibe of Hong Kong's cinematography inspired by the masterpiece of filmmaker Wong Kar-Wai. "Yes No Maybe" doesn't need a lot of time to steal the top position of Korean music charts, such as Olleh Music, Mnet, Bugs, and Genie.
As per Korea Times, popular names like Cho Hyunah, 1Piece, and G.Soul also participated in producing Suzy's first solo album. The fourth track which is an urban R&B song titled "Les Preferences", is written by 1Piece producer, Yoon Sang. Meanwhile, the lyrics are written by Suzy herself based on the song's demo version.
Cho Hyunah co-writes the fifth track called "Heater Forever" with Suzy. She described "Heater Forever" as an analogy of a person who treats his/her lover like a heater; a person who doesn't want to get too close or too far away from his/her lover.
Prior to releasing her debut solo album, Suzy has established her career in Korean entertainment since her first appearance in a popular K-Drama, "Dream High". With miss A, she gained, even more, popularity with their hit "Only You" in 2015, which is also one of the best songs of the year. Now, she's starring in an online reality show "Off The REC Suzy" that features her daily life as a Korean beloved star.
