Jay-Z has his hands in just about everything and movies are no exception. In case you haven't heard, Hov is reviving the musical Annie as a co-producer with Will Smith. According to the latest reports, Jamie Foxx is looking to play Daddy Warbucks.
According to E!, Foxx is attempting to land the role of Benjamin Stacks, a stand-in for Daddy Warbucks in this revamp of the 1977 musical.
The Tony award winning musical was based on a popular comic strip called Little Orphan Annie and spawned the mega-popular musical numbers "Tomorrow" and "Hard-Knock Life."
If Foxx is selected to play Stacks, he will star opposite Quvenzhané Wallis, the Beasts of the Southern Wild star who was tapped to play Annie.
Co-producer Jay-Z is very familiar with revitalizing this property. His take on "Hard Knock Life" was a rap mega-hit in 1998.
Fellow co-producer Will Smith wanted his daughter Willow to play the role of Annie but his young daughter had other plans.
"Willow was supposed to be doing Annie, we got Jay-Z to do the movie, got the studio to come in and Willow had such a difficult time on tour with Whip My Hair and she said, 'You know Daddy, I don't think so' and I said, 'Baby, hold up! I said no, no, no, listen, you'll be in New York with all of your friends and Beyonce will be there. You will be singing and dancing,' and she looked at me and said, 'Daddy, I have a better idea, how about I just be 12," Will told Hiphopwired.com.
The film is set to begin filming later this year and should hit theaters sometime in 2014.
