"Doctor Who" actor Peter Capaldi will be relinquishing his role as the famous Time Lord once Season 10 is up. Capaldi, who has played Doctor No. 12 for the hit sci-fi show since 2013, announced on BBC Radio 2 that it was time for him to leave.
"Doctor Who actor" Peter Capaldi thinks it's time to move on
Peter Capaldi currently stars as the Doctor in BBC's sci-fi show "Doctor Who". As the latest incarnation of the popular traveling Time Lord, Capaldi took the reins after the departure of Matt Smith, who played the role as long as Capaldi has. But during an interview on BBC Radio 2, Capaldi announced that he, too, would be leaving the show after the upcoming "Doctor Who" Season 10.
"I feel it's time to move on," the 58-year-old actor said on air. He said that it was a dream to be working on "Doctor Who", but that he wanted to do other things, even though the show had asked him to stay on after his contract. "Doctor Who" Season 10 air date is sometime in spring, with Capaldi's last episode airing on Christmas.

Steven Moffat exits with "Doctor Who" actor Peter Capaldi
With Peter Capaldi's exit from "Doctor Who" is also Steven Moffat's departure from the show. He took on the executive producer role in 2010, but this next season will also be his last. There's still no news of the next Doctor who will take Capaldi's place, as the "Paddington" actor is still filming the series, but the next regeneration will definitely appear during the Christmas finale.
According to Vanity Fair, Capaldi's last season will be full of twists and shocking surprises. It will drop a "dark, emotional thread" that will lead to the climax. The 2008 "Doctor Who" series with David Tennant did a cross-over event with "Torchwood" and "The Sarah Jane Adventures", giving the fans one massive showdown before Tennant and showrunner Russell T. Davies departed the series.
The people behind the show have a lot of work to do in order to find the next Doctor for Season 11 after this big revelation. "Doctor Who" actor Peter Capaldi will join the long line of beloved Doctors in the history of the sci-fi show. Even if his last season won't be a cosmic spectacle, his Doctor will still be missed.
