‘Aquaman’ Film Cast News: Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, ‘The Get Down’ Actor as Black Manta

The "Aquaman" film has just announced that it has found its villain! Recent announcements reveal that Nicole Kidman and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will both be joining the cast to fill very important roles.

"Aquaman" film has two scheming villains

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, from Netflix's "The Get Down" has been cast as the "Aquaman" film's main villain, Black Mamba. An exclusive announcement by The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the studio and director met with different actors to talk over the role. They settled on Abdul-Mateen last week and offered him the role on Monday.

This is exciting news since the "Aquaman" film cast also includes Amber Head as Mera, Aquaman's future queen, Willem Defoe as Dr. Vulko, and Patrick Wilson as Orm, Aquaman's half-brother. Comic book fans will know that Orm Marius is also a villain and it will be interesting how his and Black Manta's schemes will play out in this DC film.

It's expected that Black Manta will be the main villain in the first "Aquaman" film. Orm, meanwhile, will bide his time and become the Ocean Master either in "Aquaman 2" or "Justice League 2".

Nicole Kidman joins "Aquaman" movie cast as Aquaman's mother

Just moments after Abdul-Mateen was announced to play the villain's role, Nerdist revealed that veteran actress Nicole Kidman will play the hero's mother, Queen Atlanna. The queen was exiled from Atlantis. On land, she fell in love with a human, Tom Curry. She gave birth to Arthur Curry, who will grow up to be Aquaman, the half-human, half-Atlantean King.

It will start production in early April in Australia, the home country of the "Aquaman film" director, James Wan. This means that the studio and crew will be rounding up their cast members early to finalize the script and scenes for the spring filming. "Aquaman" stars Jason Momoa as the titular character and superhero, Arthur Curry and it is scheduled to make waves on Oct. 5, 2018, in the same year as "The Flash".
