Asus launched ZenFone Max in 2015 with mid-range specifications but a monstrous battery of 5000mAH. The successor to the original ZenFone Max, Asus ZenFone 3 Max was launched around three months back and the company has again launched a new model called Asus ZenFone 3S Max (ZC521TL).
The phone boasts an all metal design which is common now even in the entry level segment. It is a well-built device and the aluminum body gives a solid feel. The dedicated navigation buttons have now been replaced by on-screen buttons. The placement of the fingerprint sensor has also changed and it now sits on the front below the screen. The display of Asus ZenFone 3S Max is smaller than its predecessor, reports Android Authority.
The smartphone is powered by Mediatek MT6750 processor consisting of Cortex-A53 octa-core CPU running at 1.5GHz. Asus ZenFone 3S Max sports a 5.2-inch screen with 720p resolution and pixel density of around 282ppi. The phone has 32GB internal storage which can be expanded to 256GB using a microSD card. The smartphone has a 5000mAH battery and since it has mid-range specs the battery life is phenomenal, as reported by GSMArena.
Camera performance for Asus ZenFone 3S Max is decent thanks to the 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and dual-LED flash. The camera has panorama mode and HDR. The camera performance is not great in indoors or low light conditions. In outdoors the camera produces photos with good color reproduction but the details are missing. The video recording is limited to 1080p. The front camera is an 8MP shooter which is good enough for selfies.
The phone supports dual-SIM functionality (GSM+GSM) but has a hybrid slot. Another USP of Asus ZenFone 3S Max is reverse charging. The phone can be used to charge other devices via OTG cable. The smartphone comes with Asus ZenUI 3.0 which is based on Android 7.0 Nougat.
