Yesterday's second round semifinals round math between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund was a victory for the Spanish team but an ultimate loss in the tournament due to goal differential ruling. So Dortmund moves on to the finals against the winner of Barcelona and Bayern Munich's semifinal outings, which will be decided today. Bayern Munich's victory last week puts them at a four-goal advantage, but can Lionel Messi and Barcelona come back?
As we saw yesterday, a team can win a match but get knocked out of the tournament because of goal differentials. Dortmund scored zero goals yesterday, but netted 4 the week before. So when Real Madrid won by two, they still lost by 1 point.
Barcelona lost the first leg of the semifinals to Munich four to zero. The Spanish powerhouse needs to step it up today. Luckily, they have the goal-scoring superstar Lionel Messi leading them against the German squad. But will one player be enough? Yesterday another great goal scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo, could not break the lead of his opponent and ended up exiting the tournament. Should we be putting this pressure on Messi?
The fact is Messi can pull it off. He is arguably the best player in the history of international football. But again, Munich is not just going to let him.
With Dortmund already advancing to the finals as the team most likely not to make it to the championship, the question comes up: is this a shift in power in the soccer world?
Two German teams were respectively pitted against two Spanish teams. So far one German team has advanced and it is not looking good for Barcelona.
The final will be held on May 25 at Wembley Stadium in London, England. So far Borussia Dortmund is training for this game but after today we will see whom they face.
Who do you think will make it to the finals?
