The "Robin Hood: Origins" movie was met with confusion and derision when it was first announced. The last "Robin Hood" movie led by veteran actor Russell Crowe did not do well in the Box Office, so fans wondered why Lionsgate was even bothering to make another one. Producer Basil Iwanyk said it has something to do with the star-studded cast, amazing fight scenes, and "John Wick".
The producer told Collider that the 2017 "Robin Hood: Origins" movie will finally depict the fun and adventure of the original Robin Hood stories. He said that a young Robin of Loxley (Taron Egerton from "Kingsman") goes off to fight in the Crusade with lofty dreams of adventure and glory. He comes back with PTSD and gets frustrated at the corruption spreading in his hometown. He resolves to fight the rich by stealing from them and giving to the poor.
Iwanyk also said that "John Wick" inspired most of the stunt work in the new film. He said that Robin Hood with his bow and arrows will be much like John Wick and his guns. If that's not enough, the "Robin Hood: Origins" cast includes Jamie Foxx as Little John, Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham, and Eve Hewson as Maid Marian. Jamie Dornan will reportedly be cast as Will Scarlett and Robin's rival once negotiations are done.
Talking to We Got This Covered, Jamie Foxx said that the film was "gritty and real" and different from the other Robin Hood movies. Fans are excited to see how that translates to the silver screen against Disney's planned live-action Robin Hood film, "Nottingham & Hood", which promises to be a family-friendly adventure. Sony is also gearing up to join the fun with "Hood", which is set to give off the "Mission: Impossible" vibes.
The "Robin Hood: Origins" filming will begin shortly once the movie has all its main cast members in order. The film is set to be released on March 23, 2018. Already, there are set photos of the Dubrovnik, Croatia, where the production will take place. See the pictures below.
