For the first time in UEFA Champions League history, the final match-up will be between two German teams: Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. This week and last week's legs of the semifinals showed two determined German teams knock out two of the world's best football clubs: Barcelona and Real Madrid. Thanks to goal differentials, Dortmund moved on to the finals whereas Bayern completely destroyed Barcelona in both legs. The tide has shifted. Germany is officially an international football powerhouse country.
The match between Munich and Dortmund will be held at Wembley Stadium in London, England, on May 25. After the semifinal matches, it looks like we are in for a treat for the championship. The winner will move on to play the champions of the Europa League tournament and also play in the 2013 Club World Cup semifinals as Europe's representative.
Tuesday's match-up between Real Madrid and Dortmund saw the Spanish team winning 2 to 0, but it was not enough to come back from a 3-goal deficit from the week before. Dortmund has definitely been the surprising team in this tournament, but they deserve this chance to win the championship.
Yesterday's game between Barcelona and Bayern Munich was a beautiful display of German soccer surpassing a Spanish powerhouse. Barcelona left the pitch with zero goals. Bayern scored three. The week before, Bayern Munich defeated Barcelona by 4 goals. It looks like Munich is the favorite to win the championship.
During Bayern Munich's celebration after the match, an excited fan ran onto the field and hugged star player Franck Ribery. The player hugged him back and as the fan was escorted off of the pitch Ribery handed him his jersey. This was just a nice addition to the already exciting win for Munich.
