Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will star in an upcoming pilot for HBO, according to Deadline.
HBO ordered a pilot for a half-hour dramedy for the actor and wrestler, who will star in his first starring role on television. The show will chronicle the lives of athletes, both active and retired, who live in Miami. Johnson will portray one of the athletes in question.
Filming for the show is scheduled to start in the fall.
Johnson will also be an executive producer for the untitled show along with Mark Wahlberg and Steve Levinson. Johnson and Wahlberg recently co-starred in Pain & Gain, which opened as the number one movie in the country.
Writer, director, produce and actor Peter Berg, best known for his work behind the camera with the film and subsequent TV series Friday Night Lights, signed on to direct the HBO show. He will also be an executive producer.
"The Rock" has been busy lately and this upcoming pilot only adds to his plate. Johnson has already released four movies this year and a fifth, the recently announced Fast & Furious 6, is scheduled for release later this year. He is also set to begin filming Hercules: The Thracian Wars, in which he will play the titular hero.
Johnson also returned to WWE in January and won the WWE Championship from CM Punk at the Royal Rumble. He defended the title in a rematch against Punk before he dropped the belt to John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania 29.
