The latest episode of "The 100" Season 4 teased that Luna could be humanity's hope of survival. Showrunner Jason Rothenberg hinted that this is so, given that she has Nightblood in her body.
Rothenberg talked about that surprising revelation in "The 100" Season 4 Episode 3 in a recent interview. The series creator revealed that Luna certainly gives the Grounders hope to survive the oncoming apocalypse.
Likewise, the showrunner hinted that Luna holds the antidote for acute radiation sickness. After all, she came out alive from the disease at the end of "The 100" Season 4 Episode 3.
To recap, Luna and her people ended up getting radiation poisoning after they ate the radiated fish in "The 100" Season 4. She miraculously survived and the team later learned that she has Nightblood in her genes. Nightblood is highly resistant to radiation. It is rare for anyone to have this, but those who have it in their blood is unlikely susceptible to get acute radiation sickness.
Now, this knowledge likely prompts the Grounders to create a cure for radiation sickness out of Luna's blood. This way they can save what is left of the human population. Rothenberg teased this is what Clarke, Bellamy and the rest of the Grounder leaders will do in "The 100" Season 4.
"It's a recessive gene, so it skips generations, and it's very rare, but those who have it find themselves suddenly immune to this thing that's coming - that's what's revealed at the end of episode 3 in Luna's recovery and becomes a huge, huge, huge part of the story going forward," Rothenberg told Entertainment Weekly. Regardless, Luna saving people with Nightblood is not the only thing viewers should expect in "The 100" Season 4. Bob Morley (Bellamy) previously teased a possible romance between his character and Luna in an interview with Screener TV. He said their relationship is a "work in progress" or still very much in development.
