"Criminal Minds" Season 12 will return on Feb. 22 with Episode 14 "Collision Course". After SSA Spencer Reid is imprisoned in Mexico for an alleged crime, the team must find a way to prove his innocence. The show's producers have teased that Mr. Scratch, one of the show's villains, might have something to do with Reid's problem.
Last Feb. 15, viewers saw Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) arrested for drug possession after a high-speed car chase in Mexico. On top of that, he is accused of murder. Reid had no memories of the crime, so his team had to work with the "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders" team. "Criminal Minds" Season 12 Episode 13 was the start of the serialized arc that will span multiple episodes until the finale. Producer Erica Messer said that Reid fans won't be able to keep their eyes of the TV for the next couple of episodes, TVGuide reported. Messer also said that the writing team had already begun planning this arc back in Season 11. Reid's journey will take him into unexplored territory when he finds that he will not be eligible for FBI legal assistance.
Instead, his boss Prentiss (Paget Brewster) will enlist the help of Fiona Duncan (Jeananne Goossen) to represent Reid in court. Messer teased that the next few episodes in "Criminal Minds" Season 12 will deal with whether Reid will plead guilty or not and how the team will find the real killer. Reid has always been a vital team member, but with him in jail, he won't be much help finding who framed him.
Messer also said that Mr. Scratch, one of the team's toughest foes, will be back for "Criminal Minds" Season 12. Mr. Scratch has something to do with Reid's memory loss. In fact, the killer will play a huge part in the season's next nine episodes. According to TVLine, the team doesn't know for sure whether Mr. Scratch was really behind the crime.
As of the moment, though, it's the most logical path they can track, considering Mr. Scratch has it out for the BAU. Messer continued to hint that Reid's past experience of torture and drug addiction at the hands of Tobias Hankel will play into the "Criminal Minds" Season 12 arc soon.
