Of all the people who Jay-Z could be beefing with (Florida Republicans, J. Cole, David Stern), he had to go after Taylor Swift. Jigga took the perennially heartbroken TSwift down a peg in a line from his song '100$ Bill' from the Great Gatsby soundtrack that he produced.
That cheese made us constipated couldn't tell us s--t," he raps.
"Took that, Taylor Swift to a hundred f--king million, b---h."
The lines appear to claim that once you have enough money, it's ok to act up. The Taylor Swift reference is presumably about Kanye West's infamous interruption of Swift at the 2009 MTV Music Awards (forever cementing the phrase "Imma let you finish" in everyone's brain). Though the initial backlash against West was intense, West rode it out and after dropping a few more albums, everyone loves him again (especially where it counts, with their wallets).
The track takes a pro-Kanye stance on the incident that few people have (besides West himself, of course). To be fair, Kanye was jumping up to claim that a video by Jay's wife Beyonce should have won. Listen to the track below:
I don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand, '100$ Bill' is pretty great. On the other, Jay-Z could have picked a fair fight. You took on Nas, Jigga (and won, in many peoples' eyes). Why are you out there throwing jabs at 23-year-old country-singing women?
