Game developer Niantic's Generation 2 update of "Pokémon GO" adds another requirement for evolution. Dubbed the Evolution Items, these elusive trinkets allow players to gain access to other Gen 2 Pokémon.
Currently, there are five Evolution Items for "Pokémon GO" and using them with the specific Candy will result into a Gen 2 Pokémon. According to Eurogamer, the following are the known uses of the Evolution Items as per Gen 2 update of "Pokémon GO":
- Using the Dragon Scale on a Seadra along with 100 Horsea Candy will net the player a Kingdra
- Adding the King's Rock to the 50 Slowpoke Candy will turn Slowpoke into a Slowking instead of a Slowbro. It can also be used for Poliwhirl along with 100 Poliwag Candy, causing it to turn into a Politoed instead of a Poliwrath.
- The Sun Stone allows Gloom to become a Bellosom rather than a Vileplume by adding it to the 100 Oddish Candy requirement. This also allows Sunkern to evolve to Sunflora, along with 50 Sunkern Candy.
- Metal Coat benefits two Gen 1 Pokémon. The item, with 50 Onix Candy will turn Onix into Steelix, while Scyther will evolve to Scizor with Metal coat plus 50 Scyther Candy.
- Lastly, Upgrade, well, upgrades Porygon to Porygon 2 if used with 50 Porygon Candy.
Now, surely many "Pokémon GO" players, especially those who want to 'catch 'em all' will be on the hunt for these items, which are available through PokéStops. As Pokémon GO Informer reported though, it seems that these items are quite rare, with a very low drop rate of approximately 0.4%. Given that a player gets the maximum amount of items in each PokéStop, "Pokémon GO" players would need to visit at least 250 PokéStops to get at least one Evolution Item, and it may not even be the one they need.
Thankfully, there is still some light at the end of the tunnel, at least as far as Evolution Items go. With the 7-day Daily Bonus Streak, "Pokémon GO" players will be guaranteed an Evolution Item weekly.
