The upcoming film "Logan" is tagged as the last Wolverine film for actor Hugh Jackman, who is retiring from the role. It would not have been the last, however, if not for an issue with Fox and its current film rights.

According to an interview Hugh Jackman had with Screen Rant, a movie deal with Fox and the other Marvel-based production, Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe, would have had him wield the adamantium claws longer. Jackman also adds that it has been a dream of his to be in a film alongside Robert Downy Jr's Iron Man and mark Ruffalo's Hulk.

Fox has maintained its film rights for the "X-Men" and "Fantastic Four" franchises, which started with the "X-Men" animated television show on the 90's. And as What Culture points out, it would be highly unlikely that either Fox or MCU would bend to the other to satisfy Jackman, though it would certainly be a treat for fans. In the comics, Wolverine is known to be part of the Avengers, and even made his first appearance on a Hulk comic, so the character has been around.

Taking Sony's example though, bringing the friendly neighborhood "Spider-Man" to the MCU helped reinvigorate the interest in the character. The renewed kindle led into the web head's new title, "Spider-Man: Homecoming."

Meanwhile, when asked for the comic inspiration for "Logan", Jackman clarified that "Old Man Logan" was not really the source for the film. According to Jackman, the movie is more in line with the "Unforgiven" story arc, though it has no Hulk babies.

Recently, Patrick Stewart was asked who would win the clash between the X-Men and the Avengers, while starting with some jokes; he confidently noted that the Avengers would be sorted out with just three characters: Jean Grey, Magneto and Cyclops.

See Hugh Jackman as Wolverine for the last time in "Logan," arriving to theatres on March 2017.
