This should come as no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention these last few weeks, but 'Get Lucky,' the first track off of Daft Punk's new album Random Access Memories is a monster. It just posted it's second week atop the British Single Charts.
The track has already broken single day streaming records on the music service Spotify and caused a considerable stir even before it was released. The duo's teaser trailer launched a storm of fake leaks and intentional remixes and loops. It even inspired a cover by a Dutch reggae-rap group that counts as a must watch. Listeners should expect the track to maintain a high chart May 21 release date of Random Access Memories (which is already receiving favorable advance reviews).
Daft Punk had the following to say about the single in their track-by-track breakdown of the new album:
"Pharrell Williams sings this song: it was natural to invite our album. It is a born performer, complete, which produces a lot of elegance. It has not always had the opportunity to show he could be a great singer, so that we can include it in the pantheon of legendary performers. There is no imaginary line that separate the great artists of the past and present who are all worse than before. We wanted to give the impression of being in a capsule in the studio, isolated from the world. One can believe in 1978, but our idea is to travel this music in the present and in the future, see what happens and see if this enthusiasm is contagious."
In spite of the massive success of the single, "Get Lucky" is only the groups' third most-successful single, behind "One More Time" and "Around The World."
