Jay-Z wasn't playing when he said he wanted to start a sports agency. Since starting up Roc Nation Sports as a division of CAA mostly focused on marketing, Jigga has lured away top names like Yankee Robinson Cano and New York Football Giant Victor Cruz. He has even been in talks to sign hockey wunderkind Seth Jones. Now it looks like Roc Nation will diversify even farther by signing Brazilian soccer star Neymar.
According to Spanish newspaper Sport:
"Roc Nation" is creating a segment focused on sports and the idea of its creators is to transform players into real stars with global impact and visibility, which is why Santos player Neymar is one of the priority sports to be "signed to" by the entertainment company.
The report also claims that RN Sports will be gunning for fellow Brazilians Lucas Moura and Leandro Damião.
Cano, Roc Nation's first signee, was met with a blitz of media attention. Cano announced the fact that he had become RN Sports first signee via Twitter. He posted a picture of Jay and himself signing contracts.
Cano said in a statement "ready to take a more active role in my endeavors both on and off the field," and that he's "confident that the pairing of Roc Nation Sports and CAA Sports will be essential in helping me accomplish my short- and long-term goals."
"I am making this important decision now, so I can keep my focus on helping the Yankees succeed in 2013, while minimizing any distractions for me and my teammates," Cano added.
Since then, Jay has signed Victor Cruz and sold off his holdings with the Brooklyn Nets. He is also first in line to sign Seth Jones, who is projected to be the first African-American player to go first in the NHL draft.
