"Criminal Minds" Season 12 spoilers seem to indicate that Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) will remain behind bars until the season finale. Reports say that although Reid’s luck is about to turn in the next episodes, the character will be the focal point of a two-part season finale.
In the next episode of “Criminal Minds” Season 12, Calvin Shaw (Harold Perrineau), Reid’s only friend in prison, will make him take a stand. Titled “Assistance is Futile”, the episode shows Calvin telling him to decide which side he wants to be if he wants to survive prison life.
In the promo for the next episode of “Criminal Minds” Season 12, Calvin can be seen telling Reid that he can be either a “predator or prey” in prison. That night, two men will go inside Reid’s cell intending to beat him up according to The Futon Critic. He is in real danger and Calvin might be his only hope to survive the impending attack.
When Reid entered prison several episodes back in “Criminal Minds” Season 12, many prisoners were already targeting him. They didn’t want an FBI agent in their midst. Calvin, who also used to work for the FBI, immediately took Reid under his wing and they became friends. He was imprisoned after killing someone in an act of self defense.
Meanwhile, Reid’s chance of proving his innocence and thus, getting out of prison, seems to be slipping away. Mr. Scratch’s (Bodhi Elfman) setting him up for killing Rose Medina (Ani Sava) in Mexico looks pretty hard to crack. TV Guide reports that EP Erica Messer revealed that Reid’s fate will not be known until Episodes 21 and 22 of “Criminal Minds” Season 12, which will serve as a two-part season finale.
As the team looks for ways to get their colleague out of his unfortunate situation, the members will deal with a case involving the Bone Crusher. In the next “Criminal Minds” Season 12 episode, a mother will bring valuable information to the BAU that might help in the investigation of the unsub. The episode will air on Wednesday, March 15 on CBS.
