Fans have since wondered how Elena wakes up in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Finale. The CW has released its final teaser for Episode 16, "I Was Feeling Epic," which revealed how Elena returns to the living.
Ever since Nina Dobrev confirmed her return in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Finale, fans have speculated if she returns as Elena or Katherine. The trailer for Episode 16, "I Was Feeling Epic," revealed Elena returns and once again, fans wondered how this is possible. After all, Kai made sure that the only way Elena wakes up is if Bonnie dies.
Apparently, that is what happened. Bonnie dies but only briefly. The CW released a sneak peek at one of the scenes in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Finale that explained how Elena wakes up.
In the video for Episode 16, "I Was Feeling Epic," Damon and Stefan walk back inside the house. They are talking about Katherine as they approached Elena's coffin. To their surprise, they see the casket is empty. Stefan then says, "Earlier, Bonnie's heart stopped she said she saw Elena."
This explains how Elena manages to wake up from her induced sleep in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Finale. Bonnie dies long enough to bring her back to life. Fans may remember what happened to Bonnie in Episode 15 after she and the twins left the burning house. She had a nosebleed and she collapsed in Stefan's arms, according to Seventeen. This is probably when she died.
Regardless, this new teaser for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Finale assures fans that Bonnie lives. Viewers worried about her fate too when Episode 15 left her in a rough shape. However, as what Stefan said she only died momentarily.
Another teaser for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Finale shows Bonnie and Elena reunite. However, TV Line pointed out their strange environment. They are in the woods. Likewise, the atmosphere seems dreamlike. Could this be the vision Bonnie told Stefan about?
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 Finale airs March 10 on The CW. Episode 16, "I Was Feeling Epic," is the last run of the series.
