The Mobile World Congress 2017 marked the triumphant return of Nokia on the Mobile radar. After presenting its mid-range offers with the Nokia 6, 5 and 3, as well as the updated Nokia 3310, Nokia aims to join the big leagues with its flagship device the Nokia 8 that is rumored to hit the shelves in the second quarter of the year.
Android-powered Nokia 8 is set to arrive in two models, distinguished by its RAM and storage. A 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage and a 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage are being made, following the trend of major smartphone manufacturers. It will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor, a sought-after chip used in many flagship devices.
According to Forbes, this may play a factor in HMD's decision to release Nokia 8 on a later date. It could be possible that a high demand for Qualcomm's processor forced the Finnish company to push back its launch date. It does play to its advantage, however, as anticipation for the Nokia 8 may boost its sales or the sales of its lower cost brothers Nokia 6, 5 and 3.
Nokia's flagship device is also reported not to have either PureView or Carl Zeiss for its camera lenses. As GSM Arena reported, PureView can't be used for Nokia 8, or for any Nokia handset for that matter, due to some legal concerns with Microsoft, as it remained part of the Lumia brand.
As for Carl Zeiss, the Nokia 8 manufacturer released a statement on Twitter that they are not working with the lens company any longer. While details are vague, it would be remembered that most Nokia Phones at the time, like the N8, packing Carl Zeiss, were noted to be the best camera phones of their time.
Even if the Nokia 8 does not have those cameras built in, it still promises to provide good images. According to the leaked information about the device, Nokia 8's camera has up to 23MP resolution.
