After 26 years of managing Manchester United, making the team one of the top clubs in England and the world, Sir Alex Ferguson has decided to retire at the end of this Premier League season. The 71-year-old leaves his beloved team with more than 30 trophies including a record-breaking 13 Premier League titles. Manchester United announced Ferguson's departure from the team earlier today, which resulted in a ton of Twitter responses and "Sir Alex Ferguson" trending. What is next for the British powerhouse football club?

"The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time," Ferguson said. "It was important to me to leave an organization in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so."

So what is next for Manchester United? Gavin Hamilton, editor of World Soccer magazine, said,

"It's the largest football club in the world, it's the biggest management job in the world, and on top of that is the task of following the most successful manager in the club's history."

Names at the top of the list include Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho, currently at Real Madrid, and Everton manager David Moyes.

Other names that have been thrown into the mix include Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp, Michael Laudrup of Swansea City and former Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who currently manages the Norwegian team Molde.
