A "Game of Thrones" spinoff release is definitely happening, as hinted by co-series creator David Benioff. He talked about the possible storyline for the spinoff and the characters involved.

According to Buzzfeed, Benioff talked about the "Game of Thrones" spinoff release during Sunday's South by Southwest (SXSW) panel. Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) moderated the event, at which they asked Benioff about the plans for the spinoff.

The showrunner sounded optimistic that the "Game of Thrones" spinoff is going to happen. He said that there is a strong possibility that HBO will proceed with the show after Season 8. Benioff discussed details further and talked about the characters that would be in the spinoff.

"The characters who maybe will survive--there's always going to be this temptation to keep doing it... to do the spinoff show or do the sequel show and everything," he said. He jokingly added that perhaps the spinoff would feature the Stark sisters as zombies.

Benioff added that he would definitely love to watch the "Game of Thrones" spinoff since it would be great. However, he announced that he will not return as showrunner. He thinks that it is better to have new people involved in the spinoff to have new visions.

This is the second time that Benioff expressed his interest in seeing the "Game of Thrones" spinoff. According to Gamespot, he opened up about the possible sequel last year. Benioff said that the world of Westeros is rich with characters and history, which can be told in so many ways.

However, Benioff said that it might take some time before the "Game of Thrones" spinoff can be made. There are so many details to consider and for now, the priority is to finish Season 7 and 8. "There are a lot of different ways you could go with it; we just really haven't had time to really think through the details of it because we're so focused on getting the show made," he said.
