‘Game Of Thrones’ Spin-Off Happening: George RR Martin Martin To Write Script?

"Game Of Thrones" might be wrapping up after Season 8, but there is a distinct possibility that everyone's favorite fantastical period-drama might return via a spinoff, hinted showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. While they themselves might not be involved with the project, if HBO does plan to forward with it, there is a good chance that George R.R. Martin will have his input in the spin-off, just like he does in the original installment.

"Game Of Thrones" Season 7, which will air in just a few months, which will be followed by one last season next year, after which, one of the biggest television productions in the history, will draw curtains. While fans are really excited about the fact that Season 6 is going to have an earlier premiere than expected, they are also equally devastated about the fact that their favorite TV show is coming to an end.

However, co-creator David Benioff has given obsessed GOT fans something to look forward to by not completely waving off the idea of a spin-off. When he spoke at a panel at SXSW festival recently, he said that it was any production team's urge to bring back super hit series in some manner or form. And there is a good chance that HBO might consider doing the same for "Game Of Thrones" through a spinoff if some of the well-known characters survive the bloodbath in the final season, Gamespot reports.

According to Benioff, the possibility of a "Game Of Thrones" spinoff can easily be conceived because of George R.R. Martin's extensive history of Westeros that leaves one with unlimited subplots and characters to explore. In fact, a prequel may be less likely than a spinoff simply because Martin's books "gives you areas in which to say to a writer, 'If you were going to do this, then go flesh it out,' and we'll see what comes back. But I don't feel any pressure that we have to have something," said Benioff, NME reports.

Does this mean that HBO would insist George R.R. Martin's input in scriptwriting for "Game Of Thrones" spinoff if it ever gets made? Even though the show was Benioff and Weiss' brainchild, HBO's Casey Bloys has made it clear that he would personally prefer the exceptional show be never revived after it bids farewell.
