‘This Is Us’ Season 1 Finale: EPs Dissect Episode About Jack & Rebecca Relationship

NBC aired "This Is Us" Season 1 finale last Tuesday, an episode that had people gushing tears and wondering about the fate of Jack and Rebecca's marriage. The curtain call of the first season of the drama had viewers thinking that Mr. and Mrs. Pearson are headed on the road to splitsville.

That huge fight between Jack and Rebecca that led to their mutual, yet informal, separation of ways, according to TV Line. It was an intense scene and harrowing scene that raised questions regarding the Pearson couple's relationship.

In that regard, showrunner Ken Olin said that the "This Is Us" Season 1 finale hinted at the beginning of the next chapter of the characters' lives. After all, they all made their choices, whether they were good for themselves and for people around them or not. Furthermore, the emotionally-draining episode took a good look at the characters relationships and familial ties.

Speaking of relationships, the "This Is Us" Season 1 finale focused more on Jack and Rebecca's ties more than anything else. The show's creator, Dan Fogelman, explained to Deadline the plan for the final three episodes of the season. Fogelman, who also serves as an executive producer, said that there was a plan from the beginning to put the spotlight on Mandy Moore's and Milo Ventimiglia's characters in the last episode. That was why viewers were treated to their marriage's ups and downs and as they saw in the finale, how the couple's union arrived at its most challenging phase.

However, the EP remained coy as to whether or not the "This Is Us" Season 1 finale was the end of Jack and Rebecca's relationship. Instead, he suggested that people think of the state of their marriage at the time of Jack's death. Nevertheless, whatever the ending of their story is, they have a timeless romance.
