KickassTorrents are continuing their celebration of Happy Torrents Day despite the problems they are currently facing. Even though US authorities are soon bringing them down, they are still keeping their years-old tradition alive.
KickassTorrents founder Artem Vaulin is now under the custody of the US government after his arrest in July 2016 in Poland. The 30-year-old Ukrainian is currently facing criminal charges. On top of that, the torrent site he founded also got shot down. However, its administrators did not give up, TechWorm shared. They even hinted in their KAT forum that they were working on a new website. And lo and behold, they indeed found a way to get it back up online in December 2016. Months after that feat, they are now in the mood to celebrate Happy Torrents Day this coming Mar. 30.
Happy Torrents Day was started by Mr. Pink, a KickassTorrents administrator, back in 2011. After its initial launch, the website celebrated it annually with many uploaders putting up their torrents on that day. At first, it was a small event until it turned out to be a big annual celebration with thousands of users participating.
This 2016 marks the sixth year of Happy Torrents Day. In an interview with TorrentFreak, Mr. Gooner, one of KickassTorrents staff members, said that it is a day to honor people's freedom to share. Furthermore, there are also various events in the community while the website encourages people to share more data online. Mr. Gooner also shared that some users even take time off their work just so they could participate.
KickassTorrents is a popular torrent site with millions of unique visitors per day. Those users made the torrent side the more used one compared to The Pirate Bay. However, website traffic is nowhere near what it used to be since they relaunched in December 2016. But the people at KAT still believe that people being able to share things freely again are the most important things on Happy Torrents Day.
