Pop star Katy Perry had a colorful interaction with several fans yesterday over the Boat Remix of "Chained to the Rhythm" on SoundCloud. After posting the link to the music on her Twitter account, several fans expressed their reaction to the remix. Some fans reacted negatively, which prompted Perry to dish out several snarky comebacks.
The social media issue started out relatively benign when Katy Perry posted a link on Twitter. It was about a Boat Remix of her "Chained to the Rhythm" and this time it featured Lil Yachty. The original one featured Skip Marley and it seemed that many of her fans did not like the remix. One fan demanded new music, but another one, @katyshellokitty, wrote, "Why would we listen to this? You forgot about us. We can't stan you no more."
According to Unreality TV, this prompted the "Waking Up in Vegas" star to hit back, telling the fan to change her Twitter handle if she was so dissatisfied. Other fans saw the exchange and Perry's comeback, which fueled the issue. User @katyshellokitty then posted a picture of Katy Perry holding a cigarette in a tight, black, leather outfit.
Other Twitter users got into the fray. One of them even posted a picture of Katy Perry apparently smoking during a party. More pictures of the singer smoking were posted on Twitter. This was in response to Perry's caption in the Boat Remix link. She had written, "I can't believe we both don't even smoke and we sound this dope!"
The "Last Friday Night" pop star hit back that it was a weed but that didn't matter to the fans on Twitter who called her a liar. Others bemoaned the lack of new songs, although Katy Perry did reveal previously that she was going to release a new album later this year, according to Fader.
Other Twitter users tagged Katy Perry and said that "Chained to the Rhythm" was a flop and she should move on to create new singles. Many fans agreed and demanded the release of her fifth album. "Prism" was her latest album and that was released way back in 2013. The "Chained to the Rhythm" is the lead single of her upcoming new album and it ranked No. 1 in Mexico and No. 4 in the United States.
