Jay-Z continues his attempts to grow Roc Nation Sports. Rumors have Jigga gunning for Jets QB Geno Smith, however, a new rule passed by the NFLPA may keep him from doing so.
The Players' Union enacted an amendment that states that all agents must have a degree from an accredited college or university. Jay-Z does not have the credentials to represent players in accordance with this new rule. Acccording to CBS, one high-profile agent admitted that this rule is probably targeting the rapper-mogul directly.
"It's a shot across the bow of Jay-Z," he said.
Roc Nation Sports has already signed Yankee Robinson Cano and is interested in recently drafted Geno Smith. Victor Cruz of the Giants has admitted he wants to be represented by Roc Nation. In the world of hockey, Jay is attempting to sign Seth Jones, a lucrative and marketable player who is projected to go first in this year's NHL draft.
However, this rule would bar Jay-Z from representing NFL players directly. Were Jay-Z to grow his business through signings in other sports and hire a team of agents to work for him in the NFL side, he could skirt the rule (provided he never met with recruits).
What do you think? Is Jay-Z being unfairly targeted?
