‘Deadpool 2’ Almost Done with Cable Hunt; More Obscure Mutants to Shine on Sequel

Production for Fox's "Deadpool 2" is about to start, and it seems that the team is close to casting the right fit for the character of Cable. With several actors in the running for the role of the futuristic mutant promised at the end of 2016's "Deadpool," many would want to know what exactly writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are looking for.

While avoiding naming who exactly are the actors shortlisted for the role, which the duo promised to announce real soon, the "Deadpool 2" scribes provided the type of character they would like to see as Cable. According to Comicbook, they are eyeing for someone who is physically intimidating and a foil to the lunacy of Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds. The actor also has to be funny, but in a serious way, as Cable would have real drama and real stakes in "Deadpool 2."

Aside from this, whoever gets the role of Cable for "Deadpool 2" must be able to carry a franchise. Fox plans to create films based on spinoff titles of the "X-Men," with "X-Force" being one of them. In the comics, Cable has been known to head the military-like mutant outfit.

On other news, with the success of Brianna Hildebrand's Negasonic Teenage Warhead, the writers were asked if other lesser-known mutants would be added to "Deadpool 2." According to Reese and Wernick, new characters will be added to the sequel, some only hardcore fans will immediately recognize. Part of it lies with the fact that they need a new villain for "Deadpool 2," at the same time adding characters to compliment the craziness of Deadpool, /Film reported.

Hildebrand's Negasonic Teenage Warhead will be back for "Deadpool 2," as well as the X-Men member Colossus and the Dopinder, the taxi driver Deadpool befriends. "Deadpool 2" is scheduled for 2018 release.
