The Doctor has been running into a lot of old friends and it looks like this week's episode (written by novelist Neil Gaiman) features some old foes! In Saturday's season seven, part two episode entitled "Nightmare in Silver," you can guess whom the Doctor and Clara are up against. The Cybermen return once again! But first: What was the deal with Sweetville in "The Crimson Horror" last week? We also have a 50th anniversary special update, too! (SPOILERS to follow)
With 2013 being Doctor Who's 50th anniversary, fans will be treated to a special that will air in November. But what will keep up tied over until then? Sure casting updates and set photos are fun, but we need something sooner, right? Well this weekend, Doctor Who will be honored at the TV BAFTA Awards and Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman filmed a special segment for it! So tune in to see an extra Doctor Who segment!
In the "Crimson Horror," we got to see the Doctor in a moment of weakness. We actually don't get to see our main characters until about 10 minutes into the episode, and when we do we are pretty worried!
Red-fleshed corpses are turning up in the rivers and creeks in North England - an epidemic called "The Crimson Horror." Thankfully, this is 1893, so the Doctor's friends Madame Vastra, Jenny and Strax are around to investigate. Since Jenny is the only human, she gets to be the undercover agent in this episode.
Tracking all evidence to a compound called Sweetville and a woman running named Mrs. Gillyflower, Jenny infiltrates this community of "perfect specimens." We find out that Gillyflower wants to have the perfect people for when the end of the world comes, so Jenny being very pretty manages to get in. after some sleuthing she discovers the Doctor, stricken with the Crimson Horror. Don't worry though, he quickly recovers and even manages to smooch Jenny as a thanks.
The Doctor tells the story of how he was "rejected" after being dipped in a mysterious red liquid and how Clara is now missing.
Jenny is confused because the Clara she knows is dead. This was a very interesting part of the episode that didn't get too much attention, but still worked very well!
They quickly find Clara and discover that this red liquid resembles an ancient venom from a Red Leach, according to Madame Vastra (who is from the ancient times as well). Realizing this is CRAZY dangerous, they track down Gillyflower who has loaded a rocket (WHAT!) with this red poison, with plans to kill everyone.
Luckily the Doctor and friends have Gillyflower's poor, blind daughter on their side and she saves the day. Also, "Mr, Sweet" is referenced throughout the episode and he turns out to be a Red Leach living off of Gillyflower. Gross!
Still nothing is figured out about Clara.
