Daft Punk's new single "Get Lucky" featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers has been immensely popular and successful for the French duo. The band's first album since 2005's Human After All will be Random Access Memories. This is not counting 2010's "Tron: Legacy" soundtrack of course. The band's single is already breaking records leading up the the May 20 release of Random Access Memories. The only thing left for Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter is a 2013 tour to promote their sixth studio album.
Bad news Daft Punk fans, it doesn't sound like the duo is going to be touring, or even performing live at all to promote Random Access Memories. There were rumors they would show up at this year's Coachella, but that never happened. The band then revealed they would debut the new album at the 79th Wee Waa Regional Show in Australia. This surprised many, considering what a tiny town Wee Waa is, but it later became clear that Daft Punk would not actually be performing. Instead, the show would feature a playback of their music, while streaming online for an international audience.
The latest news is that Daft Punk will not be performing live...period. Talking with Triple J radio in Australia, it doesn't sound like playing live is in the cards at this time for the band. "We spent five years working on this record," Daft Punk said (via NME.com). "That's really the first step by releasing it is we'd like to have people experience the record as the focal point."
Daft Punk went on to explain the decision to reveal their music in Wee Waa, Australia. "It feels like [Australia] understands our music," Daft Punk said. "It could be anywhere, that's what the record is made for, anywhere and everywhere."
Pharrell Williams, who collaborates on the new album with Daft Punk, recently performed "Get Lucky" on stage during a show in Brooklyn, but Daft Punk never made an appearance. I'm sure there will be plenty of rumors still, and who knows, the duo that likes to keep a low profile could end up making a surprise appearance. However, it doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon.
