NBC officially confirmed that Saturday Night Live head writer and star Seth Meyers will replace Jimmy Fallon as host of Late Night when Fallon takes over The Tonight Show in 2014. Ever since Fallon was announced as Jay Leno's successor earlier this year, rumors about Meyers stepping into the shoes of host for Late Night have been circulating. As current host of SNL's news segment "Weekly Update" and current head writer of the weekly, live sketch comedy show, Meyers seems like a perfect fit for the late night television show. Meyers will be the fourth comedian to host Late Night, joining the likes of David Letterman, Conan O'Brien and Fallon.
Lorne Michaels, who was named future executive producer of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, will stay on as executive producer of Late Night with Seth Meyers. He is also the executive producer of Saturday Night Live.
After Meyers was confirmed as the new host, the 39-year-old comedian said, "I only have to work for Lorne for five more years before I pay him back for the time I totaled his car. 12:30 on NBC has long been incredible real estate. I hope I can do it justice."
"We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation," NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt said in NBC's official announcement.
