Daft Punk sure know how to keep their name in people's mouths. As the release date of their new album Random Access Memories draws nearer, they've kept the media frothing with a super-controlled, little bit of information at a time release schedule. The latest in their promotional campaign is a video of the duo unboxing a vinyl copy of the new album before granting viewers a snippet of the opening track "Give Life Back To Music."
The clip starts with a view of the sort of retro-futurist rooms we've come to expect from the duo. Chrome and shiny buttons everywhere, giant computers that bleep and bloop. The camera moves through the room until it comes upon a box that's glowing bright blue (no doubt the way many rabid fans picture Daft's first release since 2005 at this point. One of the robot's reaches out and grabs a file marked "Confidential. Out of the file slides a vinyl album of Random Access Memories.
The album is flipped over, opened. Liner notes are removed and displayed. The surprisingly plain disc itself is flipped over a few times for good measure. Then, the record is placed on a turntable and the needle is dropped, giving us a peek at the album opener which sounds like classic Daft Punk. Guitar-heavy and soaring, the album intro cuts out just before a supposed drop and the text "The New Album from Daft Punk...Random Access Memories" is displayed.
According to Digital Spy, we may be seeing the album early on iTunes as soon as midnight tonight. While the actual album won't be available until May 21, Daft Punk may join in a long line of artists who have streamed their album early this year.
