"The Winds of Winter" will be delayed once again as author George R.R. Martin cannot squeeze more time to continue writing the novel. The author is said to focus on writing scripts for 'Game of Thrones', which already outpaced the original novel. The speculated 2017 book release is now unlikely.
Fans were aware that "The Winds of Winter" has met a lot of deadlines and still, the book isn't still finished. The last book being published way back on 2011, it's no surprise that fans are starting to pester the renowned author about updates. Unfortunately, it seems like the book will not be finished this year, and the release is more unlikely. George R.R. Martin is said to be busy in writing scripts for "Game of Thrones" episodes, as reported by Korea Portal.
"I will confess, I do wish I could clone myself, or find a way to squeeze more hours into the day, or a way to go without sleep. But this is what it is, so I keep juggling," Martin wrote on his blog, adding the listing of his commitments: "The Winds of Winter", five new TV shows for HBO, and four new Wild Card books.
Now the real question is, will he provide spoilers from "The Winds of Winter" to the last two seasons of "Game of Thrones"? It is very likely that the author will provide snippets of the book to make the TV series more connected to the book it is loosely based in, albeit the very big difference of the two. Unless the TV series will deviate completely from its book roots, some of the key elements of the story are contained in the books.
Though promising that he will continue to work on "The Winds of Winter", Martin is scheduled to do five spinoffs for "Game of Thrones", as reported by The Guardian. The five spinoffs are announced to be all prequels. So even if the main commitment of Martin is the book, these spinoffs are expected to slow down the progress of the book.
