‘Wayward Pines’ Season 3 Missing in Fox Summer Schedule; Won’t be Seen Until Summer 2018?

Fans who have been waiting for “Wayward Pines” Season 3 will have to wait some more. The show remains in a bubble since there is no formal word from Fox as to its official status. What is clear is that it is not included in the network’s summer schedule which makes it official that there will be no new season airing for this summer.

The good news is that Fox has not formally cancelled the show either. It appears that the network is keeping its options open and is still mulling over whether to renew “Wayward Pines” or not reports TV Line. The problem is, the further it gets between the last season and the next one, the more challenging it gets to lure the viewers back for more.

When “Wayward Pines” premiered in 2015, it started to progress slowly to become the number one scripted show of the summer season. The opposite happened in Season 2 as the ratings steadily declined and many observed that it failed to capture the magic of the first season. In September, Fox CEO Dana Walden said that she thinks that there should be a Season 3 of the M. Night Shyamalan produced series.

Walden admitted that while “Wayward Pines” Season 2 took some time to find its footing, the latter half of the season did manage to tell an intriguing story. She also said that the show’s producers already have shared their plans for the possible Season 3 with her. Walden said that despite of the fact that the second season did not do as well as the first, the show duplicated its feat of being the number one scripted show of the summer of 2016.

“Wayward Pines” Season 1 told the story of Secret Service Agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) who entered the mysterious Idaho town called Wayward Pines after being in a car accident. The second season featured humanity struggling for survival in the future as the aberrations or the Abbies are threatening to destroy the last surviving town.

In the “Wayward Pines” Season 2 finale, the stage was set for more episodes with the battle against the Abbies taking center stage. It was pretty much made clear that the people behind the series wanted another season in order to have more run of episodes. Unfortunately, there isn’t much incentive to bring back the show, at least where the ratings are concerned reports Cartermatt.
