It looks like Rock The Bells will be bringing the funk like a shoe. Wu-Tang has performed quite a few reunion concerts this year, but this will be the first with Dirt McGirt. That's right, Ol' Dirty Bastard will be resurrected via hologram the same way that Tupac was at last year's Coachella. As a matter of fact, ODB will be only one of two holograms in attendance. The hip-hop festival plans on bringing back Eazy-E for a performance with Bone Thugs N' Harmony (even money that one of them throws out the phrase "hologram bone").
Eazy-E died in 1995, one month after discovering that he has AIDS at the age of 31. Ol' Dirty Bastard died of a drug overdose at the age of 35 in 2004. Both men were members of revolutionary rap collectives (NWA for Eazy, the Wu-Tang Clan for ODB.) This will, obviously, be their first performances since.
The idea of resurrecting an artist via hologram got its first major test at last year's Coachella, when slain rapper Tupac Shakur was brought to life via the technology. Check it out in action below:
The traveling festival has four two-day stops in San Bernardino, Calif., Mountain View, Calif., Washington, D.C., and Rutherford, NJ. The tour begins in September and runs through October.
