Last week in Doctor Who's second to last episode of series (season) seven, "Nightmare in Silver," we got to see the return of The Doctor's classic foe: Cybermen. This time, however, they managed to take over his brain! Luckily Clara was around and took charge of a fleet of soldiers. Plus, tomorrow is the enticingly titled series finale "The Name of The Doctor." Will his biggest secret be revealed? Will The Doctor find out more about Clara, "the impossible girl?" Where did last week's episode leave us off for the finale? (SPOILERS to follow)
The Doctor and Clara decide to bring Angie and Artie (the children Clara nannies) to an amusement park world. Unfortunately they arrive after the amusement park part of the planet was torn down and it has since become some sort of military base. They happen upon an interesting man, Webley, who shows them around challenges Artie to a chess match. But the chessboard is connected to a Cyberman!
Luckily the usually dangerous robot is decommissioned and is actually being controlled by a little person hiding under the chessboard table, Porridge (Warwick Davis). After everyone becomes friends, the audience starts to notice these "cybermites" crawling around, eventually gaining control of Webley and the chess-playing Cyberman. Clearly we all saw this coming, but it was definitely an interesting way to do it!
So Angie hates Clara and continuously states that she is not her mother (I hated Angie, by the way. Not a great character). Of course this leads to Artie ending up alone, getting taken over by the cybermites, leading Angie to the same fate and then even the Doctor gets infected!
So this military base turns out to be full of soldiers who were not so great at their jobs. Fortunately, Clara gets them organized and they start to defend against the mounting Cybermen attack. Meanwhile The Doctor is fighting with the Cybercontrol in his mind (literally) and through a chess game. If The Doctor loses the match, he loses his mind (literally) and all of his knowledge goes to the Cybermen. Fortunately, Time Lords invented chess! Though the Doctor just shocks the enemy out of his head in the end, which was funny!
Oh and "Porridge" was actually the Emperor and he implodes the planet full of Cybermen.
As you can tell, I was not thrilled with this episode. Luckily we have the season finale tomorrow, which I am dying to see!
The series 7 finale is entitled "The Name of The Doctor," so what do you think will happen? From what we can gather from the preview clips, it looks like a huge episode. Luckily, showrunner Steven Moffat just confirmed series 8, so it looks like we might see a cliffhanger tomorrow!
Here is a preview clip of tomorrow's season 7 finale followed by Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman introducing "The Name of The Doctor" in another clip:
