The Weeknd is back with his first new singles since “Trilogy.” The Canadian based singer released a “Kiss Land” and “John Carpeter” in a single seven-minute YouTube clip on Thursday night.
Abel Tesfaye brings the sex on “Kiss Land”, which happens to be the title of his forthcoming album. He sings, “"Cause the only thing you're taking, is your clothes off/ Go 'head girl strip it down, shut your mouth, I just wanna hear your body talk.”
His romantic yet, gritty lyrics are what garnered him his fame. The Weeknd makes singing about his sexual prowess sound effortless, while occasionally vulgar, one can not help but to overlook that and zone to his sweet voice.
On “John Carpenter” the 23-year-old crooner opens up about his life after the success on “Trilogy.” He sings, "I got a brand-new place, I think I seen it twice all year/ I can't remember how it looks inside, so you can picture how my life's been/ I went from staring at the same four walls for 21 years/ To seeing the whole world in just 12 months, been gone for so long I might've just found God."
The darkness and mystique of The Weeknd is still visible on both tracks, however as Abel continues to broaden his career, fans are getting to know the singer better.
